Description:

Sidewalk Chalk Artist, Craig R. Thomas, will give a mini-workshop for the registered artists for the Art Springs Chalk Walk. He is a 2019 Arts & The Park Guest Artist that is creating a 20'x15' sidewalk chalk painting for Art Springs and will be one of the Chalk Walk judges. Students will watch as he prepares the sketch and prepares the surface for the artwork. He will explain his process and provide technical tips on using chalk to create a powerful image.

His street painting has led him to competitions throughout the United States, Canada, Caribbean, and Europe. Craig considers street painting to be one of the most difficult art mediums, dealing with weather, location and surface conditions, audience  –young and old enthusiast, and time restraints of creating art for a competition.

Craig is president of the The Visual Arts Cooperative which features 50 artists, he is on the board of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, board member to Cape Girardeau's mural committee, and he coordinates the Southeast Missouri figure-drawing group. In 2007, Craig with his wife, Elizabeth - photographer,  opened the Black Door Gallery, which features individual and group art exhibits. CraigThomasArt.com.
