Placing art in public spaces because art belongs to everyone.
Art Moves
Art Moves is Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance’s year-round outdoor art program, held each year along the Greenway Trail as part of Arts & The Park. Each cycle opens with a new theme and a nationwide call for artists. A jury selects original artwork, then HSACA reproduces it as large-format, durable public art and installs it along the trail at no cost to the artist. The display stays up free and open to the public for a full year, giving thousands of trail visitors and festival-goers a changing, rotating collection to encounter. When a cohort’s year on the trail ends, the outgoing pieces are auctioned as a fundraiser and a new cohort takes their place, so Art Moves keeps renewing itself, cycle after cycle, rather than existing as a one-time installation.
Art Moves 2027: Current
Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance (HSACA) invites artists nationwide to submit original work for Art Moves 2027, the Greenway Trail’s free outdoor art program and part of Arts & The Park. Selected artwork is reproduced as large-format public art along the trail for a full year. There is no cost to apply, and HSACA covers all production and installation costs.
Theme: Current
noun: (1) the flow of water through a stream or spring; (2) the flow of electricity through a wire; (3) a prevailing trend or movement in thought, culture, or time.
Art Moves 2027 takes its name from all three. The Greenway Trail runs alongside the thermal springs that gave Hot Springs its name, and this year's theme asks artists to respond to movement, energy, and flow. It's also a nod to being current: present in this moment, responsive to what is happening now in this community, this state, and this nation.
How It Works
From Submission To The Trail:
-
Submit a digital file
Upload a high-resolution image of one original piece created for the Current theme. HSACA never takes possession of your physical original. You keep it, always.
-
A jury reviews every submission
Judged on originality, connection to the theme, and visual strength, by at least two jurors, including one outside juror in visual or public art.
-
Selected artists are paid, and HSACA builds the sign
You receive a $300 selection pay. HSACA contracts and pays a fabricator to reproduce your piece as a durable outdoor sign. You pay no shipping, fabrication, or installation costs.
-
The City of Hot Springs installs it on the Greenway Trail
Your reproduction is displayed for free in public for a full year, seen by thousands of trail visitors during the festival and beyond.
