Artist Name: Kristie York
Title of Artwork: Hibernaculum #3
Medium: Multimedia
Artist Bio:
I teach Art locally and have a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of North Texas. Most of my career I’ve been primarily a painter but since being diagnosed with YOP I have moved further into digital art, multimedia and sculpture (mainly large scale paper mache). My artwork explores dark concepts in an approachable way. I explore themes of introspection, transcendence, and absurdity. Motifs I use include snakes, skulls, ladders, and self portraits. I rely heavily on the color black and like to pair it with bright, saturated colors. The intersection of dark and weird with beautiful and appealing is an edge I try to live on in my artwork.
Artist Statement:
My Artwork, Hibernaculum #3, is an attempt to make something terrible and disgusting feel beckoning and beautiful. This is an “Artventurous” endeavor with subject matter of coiled together, undulating snakes; however the media and process is also risky and something new for me. I used bingo markers for colored collage pieces and builder’s paper for the mid tone background.
