Get ready to be amazed as you watch your blank page transform into a multi-layered dynamic painting. In this one-day workshop, students will learn to take the simple concept of using a stencil to create complex designs. First, we will design and create homemade stencils using recycled items such as styrofoam and packing materials. Then, using fast drying acrylic paint, the layering process begins!
Laura Raborn’s paintings have been exhibited throughout Arkansas and are in private collections across the United States, including an acquisition by the new CARTI Collection. Her work has earned numerous awards such as the Wilma and Jack Diner Purchase Award at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the Juror Award at the Irene Rosenzweig Biennial Juried Exhibition. She has a thriving portrait commission business, one of which was presented to the Governor of Arkansas, Mike Beebe.
Laura is currently working with mixed media abstractions, filled with bits of recognizable imagery. The abstractions use multiple layers to obscure and reveal information in order to convey each person’s unique and narrow perspective. She then draws the human figure as a way to explore modern culture and humanity. Laura's work can be seen at Justus Fine Arts and at the Landmark Building in the Next Generation exhibit.
