About me:

As renovation continues in the studio and home of artist Jeri Hillis, you will find a cabinet of curiosities among fine artworks. She is a professional working artist and teaching artist. Jeri teaches wheel class and sculptural pottery in the Continuing Education Program at National Park College alongside fellow Potter Corina Fedorowicz. Jeri is also an Artist in Education with Arkansas Arts Council and works with Arkansas Learning Through the Arts with Pottery Residencies throughout the Hot Springs School District and Central Arkansas. Jeri has lived in Hot Springs since 2005.

She was Hot Springs National Park Artist-in-Residence in 2022, completing a year’s work of ceramics producing a body of work that is a reflection of ancient Effigy Pottery. Jeri was selected for the 2010 Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts in Little Rock and exhibited her architectural paintings at the Historic Arkansas Museum’s Trinity Gallery in 2009. She received her BA from Hampshire College, Amherst, MA and continued printmaking studies at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI.

In Jeri’s most recent creative practice she is pursuing narratives stirred by archeological and historical ceramics. The small sculptural creatures upon surfaces of the hand built and wheel thrown vessels are lovely, painted in jewel tones. Working in this realm of nature and ephemeralness, the haunting loss caused by the existential climate crisis, she makes an attempt to create a permeance of “vessel” through ceramics.

Jeri has received numerous national and international awards, grants, and honors in recognition of her fine art, known for her oil paintings of historic architectural features of urban ruin landscapes and mixed media collages of detailed butterfly watercolors with ephemeral fragments enhanced by her emotive brush strokes and pencil lines. She is represented by Justus Fine Art Gallery in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
