Artist Bio:
Michael Preble has been an active photographer since the late 1980s, first publishing his Caribbean photographs with International Voyager Media Miami. Beyond the east coast and Deep South, especially New Orleans and Hot Springs, photography has taken him to Japan, Thailand, India, Great Britain, France and Italy. He has balanced photography with a 40-year career as an art museum curator. He is presently a member of the Artists’ Workshop Gallery in Hot Springs.
Artist Statement:
Small torii gates strewn across stone steps at the Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto, Japan. Enhanced through digital manipulation. The resulting the dreamlike image evokes the role of the torii gate – the transition from the earthly to the spiritual – bringing forth the empowering spirit of nature.
