Artist Bio:
Shakeelah is a Little Rock-based artist. Her artwork has been exhibited across the state, including venues such as Brandon House, INTERFORM, Batesville Area Arts Council, and Lyon College. She has been featured in several publications, including the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, The Idle Class Magazine, and Women’s United Art Movement Magazine. Aside from her website (www.aneesahrahmaan.com), her art can be seen on the Arkansas Committee National Museum of Women website and the Arkansas Arts Council Artist Registry.
Artist Statement:
92’ is part of an engagement series exploring themes of the strong African American woman and women who have contributed to the history and legacy of Black women in the United States. 92’ is a representation of Mae Jemison and her adventures in space using intense color to draw attention.
