Description:

In this three day workshop, students work from a supplied photographic reference as instructor Byron Taylor demonstrates and talks on the techniques needed to execute a portrait in oils. Students are taken through a step-by-step procedure. Combined with individual attention, critiques and hands on instruction, students create a portrait under Byron’s guidance. Intermediate and advanced students alike will certainly benefit from the experience. Beginning with the photograph, students will transfer a drawing to a supplied archival board. Then continue with instructional demonstrations and talks on color mixing and paint application. Students will learn, with a basis in anatomy, how to model features in a realistic fashion. Lectures and demos also include preparation of the archival board and simple portrait lighting.
